i. the dawn of josh ▯

Hello, my name is Josh. I studied computer science at Virginia Tech and I'm currently a full stack developer at Epic. Here is my resume!
I'm most excited by creating usable, accessible software, as well as improving developer efficiency.

ii. missions ☉

Here are the places I've worked at:

Epic | aug 2022–now

As a full stack developer I create digital tools that doctors, nurses, and other clinicians use to care for their patients, with a specialty in cardiology. My big project right now is a suite of tools for cardiovascular clinicians to document vascular ultrasound procedures.

AgroSeek | may 2021–may 2022

I worked as an undergraduate research assistant on the AgroSeek Project, alongside faculty and peers at my university, to develop software for processing and analyzing metagenomic data (DNA), to be used by students and researchers.

And here are some of my projects:

Vascular Ultrasound | epic, 2023–now

I worked with my team to create a brand new suite of tools for cardiovascular clinicians to document their vascular ultrasound procedures. This includes a new module in our application for documenting vessel-by-vessel measurements and findings, a new tool for hospital IT to customize the module, a new result report for physicians, and more.
For this high stakes project, I was involved in a little bit of everything, from chatting with potential clients to learn about their needs to developing the data model. I was most involved in designing the end user experience, ensuring our module meets high standards of usability and accessibility, and the needs of our clinicians.

Copy Record Links | epic, 2023

Epic uses an internal tool to do just about everything—a one-stop shop for tickets, development logs, and customer communication. I noticed that there was no easy way for me to copy the link of a ticket / log / other record so I can send it to someone, so I did some volunteer development to make this as simple as clicking a button on the record.
A simple feature in concept, but one I am proud of as it was me saying "fine, I'll do it myself" and has probably saved thousands of clicks and hours across all roles at my company.

"Ultimate" Grapher | personal, 2020

When I was a budding computer science student, I worked with some friends to develop a graphing calculator program which takes in coordinate points and utilizes matrix operations to generate a matching function, and displays its graph onto a GUI. It was my first real experience creating something with a team and brings back fond memories, so I will never remove it from this site.
Developed in Java and Python.

iii. beyond the infinite ◈

I grew up in Northern Virginia and currently live in Madison, Wisconsin. When I'm not telling computers what to do, I like to go biking, explore new cities, eat yogurt, build mechanical keyboards, re-read Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human, and collect credit card rewards. I enjoy both thought-provoking and brain cell-destroying movies.
My dream is to retire early and spend the rest of my days in a massage chair.
